At Healthpoint Chemist we have a FREE Baby Clinic. This service is provided by a Registered Nurse, Midwife, Child Health Nurse to help you with all aspects of your baby’s health. She can assist you with postnatal care and offers advice and help for you and your baby on

Most babies begin teething between the ages of four to twelve months.
Signs of teething include:
- Irritability
- Excessive dribbling
- Red patches on cheeks
- Swollen and sore gums
- Unsettled sleeping habits
- Temporary loss of appetite
- Chewing and biting on anything
There are a number of things that can assist in helping babies during teething. These include teething rings, especially cooled in fridge, are good for inflamed gums, giving the baby food to chew on such as celery, carrot or a rusk can also help. Pharmacists can also advise parents on pain relievers and teething gels.
As teeth come in parents should start to introduce a toothbrush (toothpaste should only be used in babies over 12 months old )
The toothbrush should be gently rubbed over the teeth and gum line daily.
Colic
Options to Explore to control symptoms of Colic include:
- Assessing the feeding technique to
ensure adequate amounts and suitable posturing, and if bottle-fed the
temperature and dilution of the formula. - Finding a position the baby is
comfortable with. - Riding the baby in the pram/car or sling
- Giving the baby a warm bath.
- Structured routine for the baby.
- Background noise.
A number of products are available for the treatment of colic, for short term use.
